Things I dislike, vol. II

So me and a couple of the guyers (mocking tone) went to see Avatar last weekend. We (I) decided this was one of those movies where it is imperative to see it in the theater. Good decision. We saw it in 3-D at the local Imax screen. Because our wives were out to dinner, we had to go to the 9:40 showing. No big deal. Just as the movie is starting, a family--man, woman, and two toddlers--come strolling in. Dad is on the phone, chatting away. They decide to sit right behind us. (Even though this movie has been out for quite some time, and it's the 9:40 showing, the theater was still packed). The guy finally informs his buddy he's got to get off because he's in a movie theater. This was a preface of things to come. For the next two and a half hours, this guy gives us the play-by-play of the movie while his kids crawl on the back of our chairs and make "kid" noises. Unappreciative. Don't bring your kids to the movies that are 2.5 hours long and start at roughly 10 o'clock. That's why our blog is called, "No Kids Allowed."

On a side note, when we walked into the theater, we all noticed how many people were playing video games at the arcade. They were all adults, too. Many Cruisin' USA jokes ensued and we could not understand what drives someone (an adult) to hang out at the movie arcade. If I recall correctly, one of my go-to jokes on a movie date while I was still a bachelor was to sarcastically allude to the possibility of hitting up the arcade after the movie. Worked every time. ;)

  1. You didn't say, " I tryin' to watch a friggin' movie here, you idiot! Take the carpet- munchers to the lobby."? So, Tim, what was your take on the film? I give it a 10/4. That is a 10 for the visual Wowness and a 4 for the lame story line.

  2. About the same as you. Movies are becoming more about the experience now than the actual movie. It was a good experience.
