Embracing the Ghetto Pass and Becoming a Handyman
I have a lot of things I need to update on the blog that seemed to have passed by me to quickly like my trip to UT, Girls Camp, some friend posts, etc. so expect to see those sometime in the near future. For now, I just want to give a quick update on some recent happenings.
First, anyone who knows Tim well knows he drives too fast. He puts many people at risk every time he enters the car because he likes to pretend he is a cast member on Fast and the Furious, preferably Tokyo Drift. In Utah Tim had a much higher chance of getting pulled over which seemed to happen somewhat regularly. In Milwaukee, the police have way better things to do than worry about traffic violations so people drive crazy, many of them without a license. (Side Note: Tim is white which also substantially lowers his chance of being pulled over. We have NEVER seen a white person pulled over in MKE). All of this has led Tim to embrace even more unsafe driving habits one of which is called the ghetto pass. This is when you move into the right shoulder where there is no lane to pass the car in front of you. Well this week Tim did something even more dangerous than the ghetto pass. We were driving behind a city bus with another buss on our left. Tim sped up, angled our car and shot through the small space between both buses. It made me nauseous. About a block later this car with a very bad driver inside passed us and gave us a thumbs up. At the next stop light, this car proceeded to pull up next to us and the driver said, “That was some nice drivin back with those buses, man. I liked that move.” The man then sped off and swerved into our lane cutting another car off and then made a bad left-hand turn. The whole thing was so surreal to me but I’m not sure I have ever seen Tim so proud. He spent the next 5 minutes giving me the details of the three other times in his life when someone has told him how great his driving was. Really? I took a picture of his car as he sped off because I wanted to remember that moment forever.
Second, whenever anyone asks me what Tim is up to now that he has graduated, I say that he is looking for a job. I decided I need to stop saying that considering he has two jobs. He works 4 days a week at a law office that he worked at through school. On Tuesdays, nights, and weekends, he works as a handyman. He did some jobs for our landlord at the beginning of the summer mostly painting apartments and ripping out carpet. Then an old man on our street heard about his handyman work and has hired him. Tim has painted his railings and rain gutters and is moving on to the doors. We have no idea how long this to-do list is but Tim loves his new job and enjoys his new boss Jim Bob’s company. They are becoming fast friends.

That sounds crazy!! I was laughing as I read it but tell him we do want to see you both again so stop the craziness!
ReplyDeleteHandyman work is good work...I'm glad he's keeping busy. Hope you both are doing well.
Ahhhh driving by Marquette. That pic almost makes me miss driving on 27th street every day of my life with all the ghetto-fabulous drivers:) Maybe Tim can show off some of his moves in downtown Rhinelander. I bet he'd get a few comments here!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I did like to speed on Lisbon just as much as Tim, that bus business in INSANE.
ReplyDeleteOkay - Crazy. By the way Jason got pulled over in MKE, the only reason he didn't get a ticket was the cop was nice and liked that Jason was in the military (had to explain and prove why we still have Idaho drivers licences). So be warned Tim - the GHETTO Pass doesn't always work.
