Bumper Stickers

I don't like bumper stickers. In fact I hate them. Add that to the list. I am not alone in my hatred though. I don't like the idea of sticking something on my car, possibly ruining my paint job. Minimal window stickers are fine, as long as they're not political. Political bumper stickers seem cheap to me. Cheap in the sense that I consider them weak advocacy because no one ever calls you on them because they are only seen when you are driving. First, I saw an article online about this one the other day:

Then I saw this one leaving the work the other day:

I love these bumper stickers, because they are so easy to attack and have such stupid positions. Sadly, this is what the Republican party has come to. However, I am non-partisan in my dislike. I hate Gore 2000 stickers still on people's cars, still protesting Florida. I hate any type of coexist stickers, anti-abortion stickers (I would hate pro-abortion stickers if they existed), and religious stickers. I also hate those stickers that are just white circles with two black letters standing for something. The reason I hate these so much is because I feel as though they are used now to show people the unique places they have visited. When these first started to appear, you would see one that said "NY" for New York or "UP" for Upper Peninsula. Fine. Now they are getting out of control, with things like "26.2" for people that run marathons so us lazy people can feel bad about ourselves, or "FJ" for Fiji, you know, because I go there every summer. Plus, there are some that I have no idea what they mean, like this, making people that read them feel stupid that they are not in the know. It really is a white person thing to do. Honestly, I could go on for a lot longer, but I'll just send us out with another favorite:

  1. Haha, I'm assuming this post was by Tim but I can picture Anna writing it too. I also hate bumper stickers but mostly because I think they make a car look tacky (I'm a bit more shallow than you guys).

  2. I loved this post. And I love that it's summer now and I can finally read your entire blog and not feel guilty about it. It's the other side of the "feeling guilty because I wasn't reading your blog" coin.

    I secretly hate soldier pride.

    p.s. I'm Katelin's friend.

  4. Taren--that is a completely acceptable bumper sticker, and it would go perfectly with my new T-shirt [idea], "I heart the Emma Watson version of Hermione."
